The last few days, we had temperatures in the low to upper 80s. It got warm, and the high winds are not helping today. It sucks the moisture right out of my body. But not only I have to quench my thirst. My little friend, the Mourning Dove sat in a shady spot near the bird bath and relaxed from the warmer weather. Soon, the bird got thirsty, flew to the water and took some big gulps to stay hydrated. The Mourning Dove stuck around all afternoon. At least, there is plenty of food and water in our backyard.
Mr. Junco had dinner, when Mr. and Mrs. House-Finch came to have dinner at the dish as well. Unfortunately Mr. Junco was not very happy to share the food with the House-Finches and started to yell at Mrs. House-Finch. Mr. House-Finch had enough of the name calling and yelled back at Mr. Junco. Seconds later, the males got into a fight. While Mr. Junco was kicking Mr. House-Finch, the finch slapped with his wing the seeds out of the juncos beak. Mrs. House-Finch sat in the peach tree, far enough away and avoided to get more involved into this fight. Later, she had a talk with her husband, before she could eat in peace at the feeder. Some animals are not so different than some humans. 😉
Because the groundhog’s home is up in the Northeast of the USA and Canada, it’s harder to get a photo of the rodent in Texas. But Punxsutawney Phil’s little cousins, the Prairie Dogs, live here in the Southwest. And they are happy to hear, that Cousin Phil’s prediction is for an early Spring, because he hasn’t seen his shadow, in Pennsylvania this morning.
