Strawberries In The Greenhouse

Katelynn and Sara nibble on the herbs in the greenhouse for several days. And now, we can add strawberry to the mix. The strawberries are small, but they are so delicious. The girls loves the sweet taste of fresh strawberries.

Greenhouse Garden Project (Phase 1/Part III, IV & V)

WOOHOO! I’ve got my first phase of the Greenhouse Garden Project done. Lots of cinder blocks, soil and sweat went into it. The last few days, I worked on Part III, IV, and V. My muscles are sore and aching. No pain, no gain!

In Part III, I placed the cinder blocks, filled the raised bed with soil, amendedΒ the soil with all kind of goodies, and planted the peppers and herbs. Now, the roots of the bell peppers, poblanoΒ and jalapeΓ±o can stretch out and grow more fruit. We have some peppers on the plants already. They are still small. But it’s great to see them growing so well.Β While I put the cinder blocks down, I did it on both sides of the greenhouse. That’s why it was so easy and fast to get the other parts done in a decent amount of time.

Part IV will be a blooming herb bed to invite pollinators. Yes, when it gets very warm I leave the windows open in Summer. Usually, I’m getting visitors like bees, butterflies, moths, spiders. and sometimes even a curious Northern Cardinal fledgling, which needs help to find its way back out to its parents. In Part V, I just filled up the walking area with mulch and put down some step stones for easy access to the vegetables and herbs. The mulch just needs to settle a little bit. It feels like walking on a sponge. πŸ˜€

Kevin got me some succulents as a present for our upcoming Anniversary. This was very sweet of him. I just need to find a perfect spot for them. They can handle temperatures from 45Β°-100Β°F. And they prefer a slightly shaded area. In Texas, it can get much cooler and much warmer. So, I have to remember to bring them inside on those hot Summer days.

Walt Disney World 2019

Tomorrow is the big the day, Katelynn will fly with her school band to Florida. This will be the fourth time for Katelynn being in Walt Disney World. But it will be the first time without us parents. She’s growing up so fast! 😦 πŸ˜‰ Katelynn’s band won’t march. But they still will have a good time seeing other High School bands marching in the parades. There will be also a few local bands from the DFW Metroplex.

The First Narcissus of 2018

Despite the cool rainy weather, it stayed above freezing inside the greenhouse. The Narcissus doesn’t seem to mind the cooler temperatures and slowly opened its blossom, yesterday.Β  When the ground dries I have to lie down some mulch and stones. It will prevent, that I have to walk through puddles and mud in the future. But this morning, I managed to capture some photos of the Narcissus without getting my feet wet, when I walked over to the greenhouse.

A Candle Jar For Every Celebration (2): Valentine’s Day πŸ’—

This morning I sprayed the jar with Frost Spray paint and let it dry in the sun. In the meantime I printed out the Mickey & Minnie silhouettes, I found on Pinterest. Once the jar was dry, I cut out the silhouettes and glued them carefully on the glass. Those little mouse tails always need a little extra attention. I usually put a little bit of glue on my finger, before I put it on the fine tails. It helps to prevent a mess. And I always can wash my hand afterwards. While the glue tried, I added someΒ πŸ’—-stickers and tinsel stems (pipe cleaners), which I purchased from the Dollar Store. Adding a tea candle to it gives it a romantic atmosphere. Now, all I need is some chocolate to celebrate the work I’ve done. πŸ˜‰

Mickey & Minnie Garden Decoration

Since about five years I’m looking for cute Mickey & Minnie garden statues. The ones I found online were either made out of poor material or out of my price range. Yesterday, I went to a local store. And there they were sitting in the shelf: Mickey & Minnie about 10 inches tall, hard plastic material, and for only $10/each. I had to “adopt” these two sweet mice, where they can make adorable decorations between the flowers in my greenhouse from here on forward. I might do something extra with them for Valentine’s Day.Β πŸ’žπŸ’–πŸ’—
