Kevin told Sara to help her sister to pick up dog poop, before he could mow the lawn. Sara was not happy about it. We could see it in her eyes, she wanted to talk herself out of it. But we put the foot down, and said to our sassy little Princess, that she has to help cleaning up after Lexi and Luis. After Sara got grossed out a couple of times, she actually started enjoying searching for the dog land mines in the grass. Katelynn and Sara made a game out of it. And everything was picked up and mowed in no time. I guess, parenting is not so hard after all. We just have to stay on top of it. 😉
Kevin got the outdoor chores done, this morning: the Halloween decoration went back in the garage and the attic; the bushes around the house needed to be trimmed; the grass got mowed; and the quarterly bug spraying was done. The cats hung out in the backyard in the meantime. Joshua roamed around and was so eager to get into the attic. Kevin had to pull him out of there a few times. But Chewbacca rather jumped in the tree to get to the catio roof. There he just enjoyed the wind blowing through his fur, while he watched the world from above the ground. This time of the year, he really enjoys being outdoors. It’s not too hot and not too cold. Temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s (20º – 22ºC) are perfect for him. He doesn’t mind the wind gusts, as long as he finds a good spot to relax.
Kevin and the girls were working on the floors, today. Sara had to hold the heating gun towards the laminate tiles, while Kevin tried to get with a scraper under them. When Sara got bored, Katelynn took over for a while. Since these laminate tiles were glued to the concrete, Kevin went almost nowhere with the scraper. It was time to get the “big gun” out and show that darn floor, who is the boss. It got a loud a little bit, because Kevin used the compressor. Ha, all of a sudden the laminate came off in no time. And Kevin got further ahead than he was actually planning to be by this evening.
Tomorrow, we plan on getting the laminate in the utility area and under the dishwasher. Maybe we also can remove the carpet in the hallway towards the bedrooms. Kevin is tired and sore, right now. We’ll see, what’s in store for tomorrow.
Yesterday, we were in a furniture store to get new mattresses for Kevin, Sara and me. Since years I want a king size mattress, because our pets like to sleep with us. One year ago, we’ve got Luis. And this dog just loves to play “helicopter”, while he snores on our bed. Not to forget to mention, our cats love to snuggle with us too. Sara needs a whole new bed (frame and mattress). And Katelynn will get our “old” queen size bed. The mattress is still in top shape. And she can get several more years out of it.
We also went tile shopping. Oh boy! I can’t wait for the construction to begin in our house, again … NOT! 😉 When we first purchased our home in 2005, it still had a lot of originality from when it was first built back in 1978. Since I was pregnant with Sara, we always renovated a little bit at the time, when we had extra cash. Over the last eight years we got new windows, fixed the foundation, got a new roof, new sidings, a new bathroom, new appliances for the kitchen, new lights … etc. This year it is time for new flouring and painting. I will do the wall painting myself. That saves us money, and I enjoy it anyway. When we make it a family project, it is even more fun.
Well, since we are in the process to move the furniture out of the way, this is a good opportunity to get rid of some clutter, that accumulated over the last 12 years. And let me tell y’all: it feels good to get rid of some of the stuff. Not only does it free up some space, it also frees my mind. Some of it will be donated; other stuff just needs to go in the trash. It’s that plain and simple. After cleaning the master bedroom for a while, I had to take a break and sit in backyard this afternoon. While I sat there and enjoyed my refeshing peach-mango juice, I saw this little Ceraunus Blue Butterfly sitting on a wilted stem of my calendula flowers.
