Visiting Family In North Carolina

The last several days after Christmas, we took a short break and visited Kevin’s family in North Carolina. Katelynn and Sara hadn’t been in Georgia and South Carolina, yet. So, we chose to drive the southern route through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina to get North Carolina. Since it was raining most of the time, we took it easy with the “End of the Year” trip. I captured several photos. But I wasn’t going all out as I usually do, when we go on bigger trips. Here are my favorite ones:

Merry Christmas!

There’s More To Christmas …

There’s more, much more to Christmas
Than candlelight and cheer;
It’s the spirit of sweet friendship
That brightens all the year;
It’s thoughtfulness and kindness,
It’s hope reborn again,
For peace, for understanding,
For goodwill to men!

Luis’ Birthday

Luis’ gets double rewarded this week. Today is his birthday; and tomorrow is Christmas. Oh boy, oh boy! What an exciting day, night and morning for Luis. He got a piece of ham for his birthday. And this evening, we celebrate with some canned foods for the dogs and the cats. Then they all have to go to bed, so Santa can visit our house tonight. And then our birthday boy will have a present under the tree, tomorrow morning.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Luis!

On Christmas Eve, we all finally can take it easy. Santa is with his reindeer and his big sleigh full of presents on his way. Right now, he’s probably over Western Russia or Eastern Europe, while I write this. I hope, he brings me lots of health for 2019. This year was a bit rough for me.

The girls went with Kevin to see “Small Foot” in the Cinema, this morning. And all what is left, Sara and I have to prepare some reindeer food. We use “Fruity Pebbles” cereal and add some glitter to it. Maybe Rudolph “steals” another carrot out of our garden, tonight. Who knows? πŸ˜‰ He’s very welcome to have a healthy snack. The reindeer, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen are welcome as well. I should make it a tradition, growing carrots for Christmas. πŸ˜€

Kevin and I also celebrate being 18 years together, today. It’s another reason, why Christmas Eve and Christmas is extra special in our house. ❀

The Holidays At The Colony Central Fire Station

Every year, The Colony Central Fire Station celebrates the Season with lots of Christmas lights and music. One year, a police office started the Light-o-Rama at his house across the park. The Fire Department liked it so much, they got some volunteers to help with their light-o-Rama, and it became a tradition. After the Parade of Lights, Santa flips the switch and turns on the lights at the Fire Station, in early December. From that day on, we citizens of The Colony can sit in the parking lot, tune our radio and listen to the music, while watching the lights, until after New Year.

The Full Cold Moon For The Winter Solstice

With the Winter Solstice, we also celebrate the first Full Moon of Winter tonight. Officially, the Moon won’t be full before 11:49 am (CST) tomorrow. By that time it has set for us here in Texas, and therefore we can not see it. The December Full Moon is calledΒ Full Cold MoonΒ orΒ Long Nights Moon.Β Last time, we had a Full Moon on Winter Solstice was in 2010. The next Winter Solstice/Full Cold Moon will occur in 2094.

Winter Solstice/Yuletide 2018

❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Today is the shortest day and the longest night of the year, in the Northern Hemisphere. The Sun will be ‘reborn” and “climb its way to the top of the hill”, until Summer Solstice in June, before the days will become shorter again. We call it the Winter Solstice, when the days are short and the nights are long. And the days start to become longer.

Katelynn and Sara had their last day of school for 2018. It is also the end of the first semester in school. When the girls go back, Katelynn will have a new schedule in January. And Sara will begin to prepare for the STAAR tests, in Spring. But first, we will enjoy the last days of this year. Hopefully, we have a good start into the new year, 2019. We will visit the family in North Carolina for a few days. The girls want to see their grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins. They always enjoy traveling and seeing something new on the road. It never gets old for them. πŸ˜‰

The Last Day of Autumn

If we didn’t have 25 mph winds, this had been a very nice day, today. The wind was chilly. So, I decided to spend my day in the house and cook a good “Chicken, Rice & Vegetable Soup”. First I made my chicken broth from scratch, before I cooked the rice. When Katelynn and Sara came home from school, they were very happy to see Momma’s soup. But first they had to help me cleaning up some trash across the street. The wind knocked over the neighbor’s trash cans, and most of the trash landed in another neighbor’s yard. Those were some strong gusts. Tomorrow supposed to be a beautiful day, with only a light breeze. It will be a warm start into the Winter Season.

“Mom, one week is sooo long away!”

Christmas is one week away, and I finally wrapped the presents. When Sara came home from school, she was so excited seeing some packages under the tree. But this evening, she looked at the tree and said: “Mom, one week is sooo long away!” “Yes, my dear! One week can be long. But you will have a lot of fun in the meantime. And then, one morning you’ll wake up, and Santa was here”, I replied.
