Remembering Finley

Every Christmas season as soon as we put up the tree, Finley waited patiently until we laid the skirt down under the tree. From that moment on, he took his cat naps under the Christmas tree until the season was over. Finley was very protective with his favorite spot as well. No other pet was allowed under the tree. And we had to re-arrange the presents in a certain way, so he could still take his naps there.

We really miss this cat very much. It is the first season without him napping under the tree. And even when Finley is not around us physically anymore, he is still with us in spirit for the last five months. Run free, Finley!

Disney Christmas Ornaments

In Spring 2011, I visited Walt Disney World for the third time. Kevin, the girls and I had a blast with Mickey & Friends. The last day, Kevin and I decided to go for some souvenir shopping to Downtown Disney. There is also a store named “Disney’s Days of Christmas”. I never can get enough looking at all these beautiful ornaments, tree skirts, stockings, and many other Christmas decorations. Before we left, we picked up an ornament set with Mickey, Minnie, and their friends. Here photos of some of the Disney characters:

The Chickadees

Our little chickadees visit our garden since mid November. They are here for a couple of days. Then I don’t hear and see them for several days, before they come back and visit our feeder again. Today the chickadees noticed, that I put up a feeder with sunflower and safflower seeds. It’s a special blend for the cardinals and their friends. The chickadees were very happy and stayed in the yard for quite some time. As a reward, they were singing their sweet little songs.

Christmas In Our Neighborhood

Kevin, Katelynn, Sara and I went shopping for Winter jackets and boots. Since we didn’t wanted to get home right away, we looked at some Christmas lights in our street and the next street over. I told Kevin, I have to bring my camera and capture some photos.

Tonight, I walked over to shoot some photos. Three houses had their whole front yard decked out. There was a neighbor between two fully decorated yards, who had a sign saying: “Ditto”. That was very cute and made me laugh. It’s one way to decorate for Christmas. 😀

Chewbacca & Sandy

Sandy came down to the critter feeder, after I refilled it with tried corn, peanuts, sunflower seeds and other goodies. She kept munching away her little seeds, when Chewbacca got her attention. He sat on the porch and watched her for a little bit. Sandy looked at Chewie and froze for a moment: “Oh no! This crazy feline sits there and watches me from the porch, again.” Chewbacca went over to the tree and sharpened his claws on the bark. Sandy jumped further up in the crown of the tree and chattered at him. She was not happy at all and gave Chewie the third degree. Chewie decided to leave Sandy alone, when Joshua jumped over the fence back into the yard. It was more fun to roll around with his buddy in the grass, than getting into it with a feisty squirrel anyway. Yes, Mommy (me) said though. 😉

Winter Blooms In My Greenhouse

Every Winter I plant some flowers in my greenhouse throughout Winter time. Their colorful blossoms always bring a great warming feeling on those grayish Winter days. Even when it snows outside, they are warm and cozy tucked in the soil inside the greenhouse.

Cozy December Evening

The wind is blowing and the temperatures are falling below the freezing point, tonight. This is a good evening for getting a fire started in the fireplace, and a hot chili for dinner. Katelynn is still practicing clarinet in school, while Sara is bundled up in a blanket and the pets are laying close to the fire. It will be a cozy December evening in our Texas home.

We are blessed with a cozy fire in our home on this cool December night.
