This afternoon I cleaned out another apple sauce jar to make a candle light for Chinese New Year. I ripped up more gift paper and glued it to the glass. While it dried, I printed out “DOG” in Chinese Mandarin. When the name was added to the glass jar, I put candles in all three jars to honor each individual holiday of this week. Enjoy the photos. 🙂
This morning I sprayed the jar with Frost Spray paint and let it dry in the sun. In the meantime I printed out the Mickey & Minnie silhouettes, I found on Pinterest. Once the jar was dry, I cut out the silhouettes and glued them carefully on the glass. Those little mouse tails always need a little extra attention. I usually put a little bit of glue on my finger, before I put it on the fine tails. It helps to prevent a mess. And I always can wash my hand afterwards. While the glue tried, I added some 💗-stickers and tinsel stems (pipe cleaners), which I purchased from the Dollar Store. Adding a tea candle to it gives it a romantic atmosphere. Now, all I need is some chocolate to celebrate the work I’ve done. 😉
Next week there will be three “holidays” to celebrate. On Tuesday is Fat Tuesday. It is the last day to celebrate with rich foods, before the fastening begins on Ash Wednesday. On Wednesday is Valentine’s Day. ❤ And on Friday is Chinese New Year. China will celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Dog.
In our house, I always like to decorate for these moments. Katelynn, Sara and I talk about that particular event or holiday. It gives them a little bit of a cultural insight. For these events I chose to make candle jars out of old apple sauce jars and Dollar Store items, this year . I spent all morning to get the jar for Mardi Gras decorated.
First I ripped up gift paper in the three colors, which represent the colors of Mardi Gras. After it was glued to the jar, I printed out a Fleur de lis and colored it. Playing with the mask and the beats, makes it a good center piece for the dining table. The jars might end up on the mantle, when they are all done. On this gloomy, cool day, this is a perfect project.
