Robber Fly (Mallophora bomboides)

In our garden I find all kinds of interesting bugs. This time it is a robber fly, that mimics a bumble bee to get their prey confused, before they’ll catch it. Usually I see these big, intimidating  robber flies in our yard. They feed on cicadas and other huge bugs. But I was surprised to see this little guy/gal munching on what seems to be an assassin bug, while sitting on one of my tomato cages. After several photos, I came a little bit to close for comfort. And the robber fly flew with its leftover prey into the distance.
