School Year 2018/2019

When School Is Closing Soon

When school is closing soon,
my heart gets excited!
But, I’ll miss my friends and teacher
so my feelings are divided.
I think of all I’ve learned,
like math, writing, and reading.
I’m proud of my accomplishments
and how I’ve been succeeding!
So, here’s to Summer months of fun
and to the next year, too!
I’ll always remember this school year
and how much I grew!

Black Swallowtail Caterpillar

A couple of days ago, I found a Black Swallowtail caterpillar on the fennel in one of our garden raised beds. Since Mr. Cardinal is very busy picking the Cabbage White caterpillars for his offspring from the leftover broccoli plants, I didn’t want to risk it, him taking the Black Swallowtail as well. For this particular reason I planted more fennel in the greenhouse, last month. I relocated the caterpillar to the indoor plant. And now, it’s happily munching the fennel tops away. It doubled in size, already. The girls can’t wait to release the first butterfly for this season.

Blooming Bee Balm (2)

Last year, I planted Bee Balm for the Hummingbirds/Butterflies in the front yard. Back then, I had two plants. When they were done blooming, they died out. I removed what was left over. This Spring, I’ve noticed lots of little seedlings in the flowerbed. Later, we found out, that the Bee Balm reseeded for future blooming. Today, the first blossoms appeared for this season.

The Full Flower Moon 2019

The May Full Moon 2019

Today, we had a few storms blowing through North Texas. But it cleared up enough to see the Full Flower Moon, this evening. Tonight’s Full Moon is also referred as a “Blue Moon”. Usually there are three Full Moons in every season. This Spring, we experience four Full Moons. Therefore the third Full Moon is also called a “Blue Moon”. The fourth Full Moon will be on June 17, which is four days before the Summer Solstice.

Every Friday, I’ll post some photos of flowers. These could be garden flowers or wildflowers. Today, I begin with a Hibiscus blossom and a Foxglove.

Our Greenhouse/Garden In Mid-May 2019

The tomato plants grow like weeds in the greenhouse. We have about two dozen fruits growing on the plants. And every day, I find a few more ‘maters on the vines. Today, I also could harvest a couple of jalapeรฑo. The pepper plants seem to pick up. The hot temperatures in the greenhouse help the peppers growing much better. And we have new “tenants”. The Greenhouse Fairies moved into the beautiful solar house, I purchased for them last week. Sara checks on Tinker & Friends, if they come home every night. When the lights are on, the Greenhouse Fairies are here. ๐Ÿ˜‰

An Evening Song From The Texas State Bird

This evening, we had one “Mocker” sitting so perfectly in the neighbor’s tree, that the Moon was behind the bird and the last rays of the Sun were reflecting in an orange-red shade on its feathers. The Mockingbird sang a song about Spring, warmth, sunshine, mating and probably a couple lines about the rising Moon. I just hope for him, he’s not the Bachelor, that sits in a nearby tree and sings this very same song from 2:30 – 4:00 every morning.

“Baby”, The New Member In The Texas Fox Squirrel Family

For a couple of weeks, I’ve noticed a smaller squirrel coming to our feeders. When I approached the feeder, it didn’t move but trembled. It was very young, and didn’t know what to do. Then it dawned on me, that this little one is still a “baby”, and has to learn about it’s surroundings. Now, I make sure that our dogs and cats are not outside, when “Baby” visits the feeder. Momma Squirrel keeps an eye on him. But he is already very independent.ย The girls will give “Baby” a new and more appropriate name, soon. In the meantime, it’s the baby in the Fox Squirrel Family.
